Tensile testing is used in BME 429 to determine material properties. One of the materials currently used is beef muscle tissue. It is tested both with and against the muscle fiber direction to show the anisotropic nature of the tissue. These specimens are difficult to prepare in an appropriate volume and generally do a poor job statistically demonstrating the anisotropy of the material. The project would be to develop a tissue phantom for tensile testing that is easy to prepare at scale from readily available materials that mimics the relevant muscle tissue properties to be used in tensile testing.
