At Spectrum Control, we design and manufacture electronic components and systems used in aerospace, defense, and industrial applications, including RF and microwave components, EMI protection solutions, and power distribution products. This project will be based at our State College, Pennsylvania manufacturing facility and will focus on continuous improvement activities within a production environment. The initial focus of this project is to apply Kaizen and lean manufacturing principles to evaluate and improve workspace design and task lighting in manufacturing areas. Students will study existing workstations, conduct lighting evaluations, and develop recommendations for task lighting and workspace improvements that support safe, efficient, and consistent task performance. This description is intended as a starting point; the final problem definition, objectives, scope, and deliverables will be refined collaboratively during the student kickoff meeting. Students will develop a structured approach to assess current conditions, propose improvements, and support recommendations with quantitative analysis where appropriate. Deliverables are expected to include workspace and lighting design recommendations, supporting analysis, and documentation that can be used in ongoing continuous improvement efforts at the facility.
